Challenged with launching a viable startup in 54 hours, participants in the Columbia, MO Startup Weekend have been feverishly working on their projects since Friday afternoon… and the Sunday evening judging is only a few hours away. Team ‘Farm Find’ is a two sided marketplace for beef.

“The problem is that when Covid 19 hit, meat on the shelf disappeared and the price went up,” said team engineer Ali Jorani. “That presented an opportunity to sell meat directly to consumers.”

By providing a two sided marketplace Farm Find connects cattle ranchers directly with consumers. That’s being done in a few places, but the team feels what makes them stand out is there’s no up front cost to the ranchers, no subscription fees to list their products, and they only make money for conducting the transaction — everything is market based.

The team conducted market research with potential customers and ranchers and found a demand for a centralized site to connect buyers and sellers rather than social media sites like Facebook.

The original concept for the team was to make an application for storing people’s identification on the blockchain. The team pivoted because validating that idea in 54 hours was deemed impossible.
